Why do you travel with students? Why do you think travel is important?

I travel with students to provide them with opportunities to learn from the world around them. When immersed in new environments, they begin to appreciate the beauty of stillness and the richness of diverse perspectives. Travel invites a deeper connection to nature and other cultures, sparking a mindful approach to life that encourages reflection and growth. It’s in these moments of exploration that we discover how interconnected we truly are, and this understanding fosters a more harmonious way of living.

What were some of the best parts of your 2024 Iceland trip?
 

One of the highlights of my Iceland trip was visiting various stops from “Sarah’s Thrift Store Map,” shared by our tour guide, Sarah. At one particular shop, I felt as though I was stepping into a space filled with the cherished memories of people from all around the globe. The owner, who sources goods from different countries, shared beautiful stories behind each item—stories that reflected a time before the prevalence of plastics, when natural goods were valued for their sustainability. I bought a wicker purse from Egypt, and the owner added a personal touch by including incense chips from Indonesia, which brought a sense of calm and connection to another part of the world. These experiences reminded me of the simplicity and depth that mindfulness brings into our lives, even through the objects we choose to surround ourselves with.
